Daniel Piccinin

Daniele Piccinin is a leading light in the Italian natural wine scene. His 7 hectares of organic vines are located around the town of Muni in the Alpone valley northeast of Verona. They rest between 300 and 500 meters above sea level and feel more alpine than their altitude would suggest. These are high altitude vineyards for the region and all of the work is done by hand.

Daniele has taken it upon himself to champion the Durella grape variety local to his area. A grape that was once close to becoming extinct. Durella is locally known as Rabbiosa meaning angry, on account of its typically high acidity. Durella is a fascinating variety that Danielle produces beautiful, singular wines from. He is working with vines both young and old, all of which are massale selections from his best plants and oldest vineyards.

Since he began in 2007, Daniele has tried to make wine in the most natural way possible. As a former chef he has a deep connection to the land his family has farmed. In the vineyard there is lots of work (without chemicals in the vineyard) and in the cellar as well, with minimal chemical intervention. The wines are produced with little to no sulfur.

Daniele’s wines are salty, mineral, tense and ethereal. We are thrilled to be working with some of the finest Italian white wines we have ever encountered.

2016 Bianco Muni

60% Chardonnay, 40% young vine Durella from 4 parcels. Chardonnay is macerated for 1 day on the skins while the Durella is pressed directly. Vinification in Stainless steel. Aged for 10 months in old barrels and Botte (large Italian barrels). Fresh, bright, salty and savoury.

  

2016 Montemagro

100% Durella from 4 parcels of old vines. Direct pressed and vinified half in stanless steel and have in wood. Aged for 10 months in the same vessels. Mineral and taught with nutty, floral characters. An elegant wine which unfolds over time.

 

2015 Arione Spumante

Champagne method wine from 100% Durella. 24 months on lees before disgorgement. This wine is always vintage dated and bottled without added sugar. Fresh and linear with a range of oxidative and savoury notes. Fruit and spice. Very deep.
